Durable, Microporous Protection for Outdoor Wooden Decking

Osmo Decking Oil has been specifically developed to meet the demands of exterior wooden decking and outdoor timber surfaces. Based on natural vegetable oils and waxes, it penetrates deeply into the wood to create a durable, microporous finish that protects from within. Unlike conventional sealers, it does not form a brittle surface film, meaning it will not crack, peel or flake over time.

UV protection in decking oils comes from the pigment (colour) within the oil. The more pigment present, the greater the protection against the sun’s damaging UV rays. Lighter colours such as 007 Teak or 003 RAW contain less pigment and therefore offer less UV protection, while darker colours provide increased resistance to sun exposure and weathering.

The natural character and grain of the wood remains clearly visible, while the finish provides excellent resistance to water, dirt and the elements.

If in doubt about colour, it is always best to carry out a test application on a small area of the timber before committing to the full project. This allows you to see how the oil and pigment interacts with the specific wood species and ensures you achieve the desired final appearance.

Most Osmo Decking Oil colours are available in convenient 5 ml sample sachets, making it easy to test colours directly on the timber surface.

Please note that custom colours developed for South Africa — such as RAW, Burmese Teak and Iroko — are only available in 125 ml as the smallest size, as these are mixed through the Osmo tinting system.

Ideal for decking, exterior stairs, balconies, pergolas, cladding and outdoor furniture.

Why Choose Osmo Decking Oil?

Outdoor timber in harsh climates requires a finish that can breathe. Osmo Decking Oil regulates moisture movement within the wood, helping to reduce splitting and dimensional movement while providing long-term protection.

Unlike film-forming varnishes or water-based coatings, it penetrates into the timber, making ongoing maintenance simple and cost-effective.
